Data Categories

Sensitive Operations Data – internal Lab business information such as finance, budgets, procurement, project management, staffing, and internal operations. Not publicly releasable, but not subject to a formal control regime.

Pre-Publication Open Science – unpublished research data, draft manuscripts, analysis code, and results from open (non-controlled) science programs.

Controlled Information – information subject to a formal control regime: PII, PHI, CUI, export-controlled information (EAR/ITAR), and material covered by an NDA or CRADA. Using any of this with an AI service requires an approved access plan. Contact itpolicy@lbl.gov before you start.
